Cinco de Mayo

As Cinco de Mayo is approaching, I knew I wanted to create some fun cookies to capture the essence of the holiday. I was scrolling through my Instagram feed one day, and saw that Sugar and Cloth had posted a picture of a leather golden taco. Once I saw the golden taco, I knew I needed to turn it into a cookie. I decided to make my own cookie cutter with my handy pizza cutter. I flooded the cookie with a light pink food coloring and then I added a bit of ivory. I created the actual taco with my edible gold paint, and finished the taco off with some lettuce and cheese–icing style.

For my second Cinco de Mayo cookie, I decided to recreate another Sugar and Cloth design. Ashley Rose, the founder of the site, dressed up a cactus with some fun pink pom-poms. I cut the cookie out with my pizza cutter, flooded it with a lime green icing, and then added the festive cactus on top. I really liked how the colors of the two cookies looked next to each other. This is not your typical color scheme for Cinco de Mayo and that’s why I like it so much. It’s fun to think outside the box.
